Monsters in the Meadow Movies Return to Stanley Park

August 6, 2008 (No. 48) - Monsters in the Meadow free movie nights are back again in Stanley Park after popular demand! Dracula starring Bela Lugosi will be screened on Friday, August 22 and the Creature from the Black Lagoon will be shown on Friday, August 29.

Both movies begin at 9 pm and are held at Ceperley Meadow, located near the red fire engine at Second Beach.

The classic version of Bram Stoker's Dracula (1931, PG, 75 minutes) remains the quintessential movie version of this popular story and launched the Hollywood horror genre with its eerie passion, shadowy atmosphere and thrilling cinematography.

In the Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954, PG, 79 minutes) a scientific expedition traveling up the Amazon River encounters a dangerous humanoid amphibious fish creature. Not since the beginning of time has the world beheld terror like this!

Moviegoers are encouraged to arrive early to get a good spot on the lawn. Bring a blanket or folding lawn chair, a warm sweater and a flashlight. The concession at Second Beach will remain open during both movie nights. Parking will be limited so viewers are urged to walk or bike into the site where possible. Monsters in the Meadow has been extremely popular with up to 2,000 people attending previous years' horror movies.

Each film will be preceded by a short feature presented by the Stanley Park Ecology Society.

The movie will be cancelled if high wind or rain occurs - the rain date will be Friday, September 5. Visit the Park Board website or call the Monsters information line at 604-473-6205 for up-to-the-minute information.

A comment card will be available at both screenings for moviegoers to suggest film titles or themes for future movie events.

The Park Board acknowledges the generous support of Coca-Cola for sponsoring this event.
