October 7, 2008 (No. 31) - Vancouver Parks host a diverse range of cultural events and outdoor activities. Listed below are some upcoming special events facilitated by the Vancouver Park Board. The Stanley Park Hallowe'en Ghost Train, October 10 to November 1, daily from 6:00pm-10:00pm. This year's theme is "Landlubbers Beware! There Be Pirates Everywhere!". Mountain View Cemetery's October Activities, Various Dates. The public is invited to participate in a series of workshops, talks and events to honour the dead through ceremony and celebration. The events are hosted by the City of Vancouver through Mountain View Cemetery's innovative artist-in-residence program and include a range of activities from creating sacred honey bee prayer flags to a Night for All Souls celebration. All events will take place at Mountain View Cemetery, 5455 Fraser Street, Vancouver and are free and suitable for families (children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver). Tenth Annual Turkey Trot "Fun Run", Monday October 13 at 8:30am. This False Creek Seawall 10km run begins at Granville Island, loops over Burrard Bridge to the north side Seawall before turning at Science World to head back along the south side Seawall to Performance Works on Granville Island. Join in this annual Vancouver Thanksgiving tradition while helping to support those less fortunate. For more information visit www.turkeytrot.ca

Guided Nature Walk with Naturalist Al Grass in Hastings Park, October 22 at 1:00pm. The Hastings Park Conservancy hosts nature walks each month led by a naturalist. Parade of the Lost Souls in Grandview Park on Commercial Drive, October 25 at 6:30pm. An annual neighbourhood celebration presented by the Public Dreams Society and Britannia Community Centre. Performers, artists and willing spirits come together to honour the dead, wake the living and celebrate the brilliant cycle of life. Skeletal Brides, blessed witches, ghastly ghouls, and prancing pixies mingle side by side. Visit www.publicdreams.org for more information.

The 38th Annual James Cunningham Memorial Seawall Race, October 26 at 9:30am. Stanley Park Seawall Race organized by the Lions Gate Road Runners beginning at Second Beach. Supports the BC Epilepsy Society and Kidsport BC. For more information visit www.seawall.sierrasystems.com.
