Unique posters and special exhibit celebrate Women's History MonthOctober 6, 2008 (No. 56) - The Vancouver Park Board is celebrating Women's History Month with a unique poster project honouring remarkable women. The 14 women celebrated in the posters are from different neighbourhoods and diverse ethnic and cultural groups and all have made unique contributions to the development of communities in and around Vancouver. The posters are based on the research of historical interpreter Jolene Cumming with the help of First Nations participation coordinator Kamala Todd and were designed by artist Tania Willard of Red Willow Designs. They will be on display at all community centres, libraries, schools and numerous public buildings in the city during the month of October.A special exhibit, Remarkable Women: Honouring Women from our Vancouver Communities, runs from October 2 to November 27at the Vancouver Archives, 1150 Chestnut Street. A celebration reception will be held on Thursday, October 16 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. There is no charge and the event is open to the public. A series of 32 community-made posters will also be on display at the Archives as well as at the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre.
