October 16, 2008 (No. 58) - The Active Communities – Active Adventure Passport, is a program designed to motivate children and their families to become more active within their own community. More than 20,000 students at 58 schools received the 2008 Passport. The elementary schools with the greatest student participation are now being congratulated for their achievement by Active Communities Chair, Bob Lenarduzzi. "Recognition Assemblies" will be at:

Maquinna Annex 2882 E. 4th Ave Friday October 17 9:00 - 9:30 a.m.
Livingstone 315 E. 23rd Ave Monday October 20 1:00 - 1:30 p.m.
Nootka 3375 Nootka St Thursday October 23 9:15 - 9:45 a.m.

Active Communities Vancouver offered the Active Adventure Passports to encourage participation by students in a variety of fitness activities that include free: swimming, skating, soccer, climbing, and walks in local parks. On completion of each of the ten adventures, the students received a stamp on their passport. The 2008 Passport is complete and the 2009 Passport is about to begin.

This Passport project is part of the City of Vancouver's "Active Communities" program working in conjunction with the Vancouver School Board. It is part of an overall goal to inspire Vancouver residents of all ages to become more physically fit and enjoy healthier lifestyles.
