Bright Nights in Stanley Park November 28, 2008 to January 3, 2009, 3-10 pm daily Presented by the Vancouver Park Board and the BC Professional Firefighters' Burn Fund. Advance tickets at ticketmaster.ca or same day at the Train, noon daily. Info Line at 604-257-8531. Closed Dec 25th.

VanDusen Botanical Garden Festival of Lights December 5, 2008-January 4, 2009, 4:30-9 pm at 37th Avenue and Oak Street. A perfect evening outing for the entire family with Santa's Living Room, Gingerbread Wood, Dancing Lights on the Lake, 8 acres of sparkling lights and wishing opportunities at the Candle Shrine. Bloedel Floral Conservatory Free Day December 5, 10 am-9 pm located atop Queen Elizabeth Park. A sea of multi-coloured poinsettias, amaryllis, tender narcissus and twinkling white lights add festive touches to this tropical paradise of plants. Fantastic free-flying birds. Great gift shop. Salvation Army Santa Shuffle Fun Run and Elf Walk in Stanley Park Saturday, December 6, 10 am The Santa Shuffle has become part of the late season calendar for many local families. The event, which is split into the 5 km Family Fun Run and 1 km Elf Walk, is a fundraiser for the Salvation Army. Visit www.events.runningroom.com for more information.

Winter Solstice Lantern Festival, Various Locations, Sunday, December 21, 6-10 pm Celebrate the return of the sun with a glowing constellation of lanterns shining in six Vancouver neighbourhoods: West End, Yaletown, Granville Island, Strathcona and Commercial Drive. These little festivals are community-based and reflect the unique nature of each neighbourhood. Each invites participation and each holds special attractions.
