Vanier BMX bike park officially opens Saturday, October 2September 29, 2010 (No. 47) - Vancouver's first dedicated bike park, located in Vanier Park, will officially open on Saturday, October 2 from 11am to 12pm. The event will include a ribbon cutting, cake and BMX bike demonstrations by riders. The park is located south of Burrard Civic Marina and just west of the Burrard Street bridge in Vanier Park. The BMX / mountain bike park was completed in September. It features formed dirt ramps, gaps and jumps that can be adjusted by users as needs arise as well as beginner, intermediate and expert tracks. There is a small pump track that will be expanded in the future as well as a spectator area for viewing riders featuring a big, comfy (concrete) couch. The success of the bike park relies on users to respect the dirt jumps by not riding when they are overly wet, spraying them down when they are dry and dusty, and grooming them when they are worn down. - 30 - Media enquiries: Barb Floden, Communications Coordinator, The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation maintains 220 parks and 40 major facilities throughout the City of Vancouver.
