2011 Park Board chair and vice-chair electedDecember 14, 2010 (No. 61) – Vancouver Park Board Commissioner Aaron Jasper was re-elected as the board’s chair at last night’s Park Board meeting. Commissioner Constance Barnes was elected as the new vice-chair. The election of the new chair and vice-chair marks the start of the Park Board’s third year of a three-year term (2009-2011). Aaron Jasper, a real estate agent, is a long-time resident of the West End. Aaron has been active in his community for a number of years including having served as a director with the West End Residents Association, founding member of the Save St. Paul’s Hospital Coalition and Renters at Risk Campaign. He was involved in the Nelson Park redevelopment, helped organize the first Car-Free Festival in the West End and is a member of the Mole Hill community gardens. In 2007, Aaron was voted "Unsung Hero" by readers of the Westender. This is Aaron’s first term on the Park Board. Constance Barnes is the sales and marketing manager for Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. She is a long-time supporter of the arts, a not-for-profit leader and an advocate for community programs that serve families. During her term on the Park Board, Constance is focused on building inclusive, healthy communities, creating a sustainable city for future generations, developing youth and senior programming, and creating affordable and accessible childcare.
