Feb 9, 2012 (No. 8) - On Sunday, February 12, Creekside Community Recreation Centre at 1 Athletes Way will be hosting a legacy celebration to commemorate the second anniversary of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

This free family event from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the gymnasium will give people of all ages the opportunity to sport Canadian colours and share in the lasting spirit of the 2010 Winter Games. Activities will include pin trading, Nintendo Wii stations with Vancouver 2010 sport games, craft stations including button making and medal making, and big screen play back of amazing moments from the Games.

"The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games were a once-in-a-lifetime experience," said Vancouver Park Board Chair Constance Barnes. "The energy and enthusiasm of all Vancouverites helped this amazing city shine on the world's stage. Vancouver Park Board is thrilled to invite families and friends to be a part of this free fun-filled and festive anniversary celebration. Come out rain or shine, get moving and recapture some of the excitement in the same space our famed Olympic athletes did!"

Creekside Community Recreation Centre is a legacy of the 2010 Winter Games. On the waterfront in the former Athletes Village it provides a gathering place for the community to enjoy recreational activities in a spectacular setting. Vancouver's 24th community centre, Creekside features a fitness centre, gymnasium, dance studio, several multi-purpose spaces, an on-site childcare facility, amenities for non-motorized boating community, and is also home to Canadian Sport Centre Pacific's Vancouver location.

The facility is easily accessible by public transit, bike routes (Ontario Street and Seaside pathway), and by the City's newest public ferry dock, which opened in December 2011. Village Dock, located adjacent to the community centre, connects to points around False Creek and the downtown core.
