Service levels during the Olympic and Paralympic Games
As a partner with the City of Vancouver, the Park Board has made a strong commitment to achieving a successful 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games by providing staff for enhanced operations that support Olympic and Paralympic activities. Many permitting staff will be part of the Host City Team and our services, while continuing during the games period, will be affected.

There will be delays processing applications for Special Events and Filming, Weddings, Ice Rinks, Commercial Recreation, Picnics and Field Sports leading up to and during the 2010 Winter Games.

Please visit the 2010 Impacts section for more information.

Vancouver has 137 public playing fields and 143 diamonds ranging from non-regulation size or gravel fields, top drawer sport fields and artificail turfs. It is the Park Board's objective to provide an adequate supply of good quality playing fields to meet the growing demand of sports in the city.

Some things to know about playing fields and booking their use:
  • To obtain a field permit, click on the links on the left side menu under Apply for Field Permits
  • Youth leagues and previous permit holders receive priority for field bookings. Most of the holders are leagues that the public can join.
  • Proper field usage can increase the enjoyment for everyone. Grass fields need downtime and can only be used up to five times a week to avoid damage and closure. Overuse or using the fields in times of water saturation from rains can damage the fields and close them for extended periods of time.
  • We have five artificial turf fields that are playable in the rain and allow four times the available playing time of a grass turf field. Six new synthetic turfs using the latest technology for infill turfs are to be added to sites to increase play time.
  • Payment for field bookings is due on receipt of a draft permit. Once payment and insurance is received an official permit will be issued. Insurance is mandatory to obtain a permit.
  • If you are interested in operating commercial recreation activities (i.e. bootcamps, yoga, dog obedience, etc.) on Vancouver's public parks or beaches, please see Commercial Recreation Events on Parks & Beaches.

Health regulations govern the number of toilets required for given numbers of people at special events. If toilets are needed for your event, you will be required to secure and provide (and pay for) these toilets.

There is also a fee for extra garbage pick-up (on a per bag basis).
