Foolish Operations Ensemble – A band of dancers

As part of the Creekside Artist in Communities legacy, choreographer Julie Lebel has again assembled a group of keen professional and non-professional music and dance artists. The group is mainly composed of mothers who need a creative place to dance and play music along with their children. The group continues to meet at Creekside Community Recreation Centre but now also meets at Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre from Nov. 2011 to June 2012.

Tuesday mornings from 8:30 to 10:00 am at Creekside
Thursday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30 am at Moberly

As artists in transition due to maternity leave, pregnancy, or child care realities, the group collaborates with organizational partners to support their endeavors and in order to keep studio costs at minimal – all participants are volunteers and the space they practice in is donated in-kind in exchange for workshops and performances in each of those communities.

The group is not motivated by a specific project at this point. The goal is to establish a steady dance and music practice on a regular weekly schedule to research and develop project ideas. Projects will emerge as the group develops its coherence and momentum. They are open to integrate more participants and would like to figure out a way to do so while keeping the current balance of professional and non-professional artists as well as parents and non-parents.

Join us to see the Foolish Operations Ensemble – A band of dancers in an open studio exchange as part of LINK on Saturday, Mar. 31, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Creekside CC. All ages welcome. LINK is an annual performance series of community dance in Vancouver where Resident community and cultural dancers from various community centres come together.

The LINK open studios allow for the exchange of ideas at interactive sessions while giving the public an opportunity to experience works in progress. This process culminates into a final dance presentation representative of all the communities on Thursday, Apr 12, 2012 from 7:30 to 9:00 pm at Roundhouse CC.
