Kurt Weill is best-known for writing the music to Brecht's Three-Penny Opera. Did you also know that his song Speak Low topped the pop charts only weeks after his musical One Touch of Venus opened on Broadway? The Jazz standard September Song was a song composed by Weill for Knickerbocker Holiday. Kurt Weill wrote music where the rubber meets the road. For Opera Appassionata this means putting an old-timer into a garage, hiring a Jazz combo and letting 4 young ladies put the bite back into the texts by Brecht, Whitman, Hammerstein and others. If you don't mind things a little gritty, this is a show you'll want to see!
