2007/2008 Artist in Residence ProjectBrit LitBrit Lit is an exciting Park's Board Artist in Residence youth-driven artist-led photography project that captures the places and personalities that light up the community--each photo offers a unique perspective into what the youth photographer considers special. Workshops took place throughout the summer of 2007 and selected photos will be exhibited in light boxes and eventually installed around the Britannia site. Artist in Residence Christine Germano is a photographer, bookmaker, and educator that has been documenting First Nations ceremonies for the past seven years along with implementing "Through Our Eyes", a documentary photo-journalism project for youth. Artist in Residence intern Robyn Gillrie is a recent Emily Carr graphic design grad and Teen Centre Art's Ink workshop leader and volunteer. She works full-time for a busy urban design firm. The opening exhibition will take place in the Roundhouse main hallways for the duration of the 2008 Talking Stick Festival, Feb 12-18.
These "Brit lit" photo boxes were created by youth from Britannia Community Services Centre as part of the 2007/08 Artist in Residence program with artist Christine Germano and artist-intern Robyn Gillrie. These 3-dimensional light boxes are 3ft X 2ft and they will be installed around the Britannia site to light up our community!
