The women celebrated in the posters are from different neighbourhoods and diverse ethnic and cultural groups. All have made unique contributions to the development of communities in and around Vancouver. Our intent is to publicly tell their stories and celebrate their achievements.
Poster-making workshops were also held at community centres in May and June for people of all ages and from different communities to make personal posters about women they wished to celebrate from their own families and neighbourhoods. These posters, created by community members, will be on display at the following community centres: Carnegie, Kitsilano, Britannia, the Roundhouse, as well as the Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre, during the month of October.
All the posters will be displayed at community centres and other public buildings around Vancouver during the month of October. There will also be a special exhibition of these posters, as well as the community posters in the newly renovated gallery space at the City of Vancouver Archives.
Exhibition Dates: October 2 to November 27, 2008.
Exhibition Location: City of Vancouver Archives, 1150 Chestnut Street
Opening Reception: Thursday, October 16 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
This is a free event open to the public. Please go to the Archives website for directions, as well as dates and times the gallery is open to the public vancouver.ca/archives
