Riley Park Community CentreThe Riley Park Community Centre is now closed.
Some services and programs have been moved to the Hillcrest Centre and many new ones are to come.
First developed in 1964, the current Riley Park Community Centre philosophy is to encourage, develop and facilitate leisure opportunities for all ages in the Riley Park Neighbourhood. Located at Ontario Street and East 30th Avenue, the centre is surrounded to the west and north by Queen Elizabeth and Hillcrest Parks which support such facilities as formal gardens, the Bloedel Floral Conservatory, a pitch & putt golf course, newly renovated playfields and Nat Bailey Baseball Stadium. Riley Park Community Centre programs and services include sports, visual arts, performing arts, health and fitness, an
indoor swimming pool, skating rink, café and fitness centre along with numerous special interest programs. Recent upgrades
to the facility include construction of both a junior and senior aged children's
playground. A new legacy facility
As the Riley Park community awaits the opening of this new complex in its neighbourhood, Riley Park Community Centre, rink and licensed preschool will continue to operate until the facility is opened. The first phase of this 2010 legacy project, the spectacular new Aquatic Centre at Hillcrest Park, will open this summer and replace the exisiting Percy Norman pool. The second phase will welcome a brand new community centre, public library, licensed preschool, field house, NHL-size ice rink and curling facility; it is expected to open in Fall 2011, at which time Riley Park Community Centre and rink will be decommissioned and converted to green space. |
