The pottery studio at the West End Community Center is located on the second floor. It is well equipped with lots of natural light from the glass roof over the throwing area, and a balcony with doors that open in the warm weather.
Some of the amenities include:
- 10 Shimpo Wheels
- Northstar Slab Roller
- Estrin Extruder
- 2 large canvas covered wedging tables, and a large glazing table.
- Banding wheels, slump molds, damp cupboards, clay recycling tables, Giffen grips, a well stocked library of books and magazines, etc.
- Over 20 food-safe glazes, 23 stains and oxides, and a wide variety of slips.
- 3 electic kilns.....a 16 cubic foot Cone Art, 12 cubic foot Skutt and a 12 cubic foot Maclennan.
- 8 different clays for sale, and fire to cone 6/7. We have tools for sale.
Pottery Classes
The studio offers classes to adult and children in throwing and Hand-Building/Sculpture. Most classes run for 10 weeks, 3 hours per class, except in the summer when they are usually 8 weeks long. Check out our program listing for class dates & Times.
Students in throwing classes can expect to come out with a number of fully usable items including dinnerware, cups, sushi plates etc.
We also offer a drop-in time on Saturday from 9am -1pm at a cost of $8, for practice in between class times
West End Pottery Club
The pottery club has 66 members and membership includes all glazing and firing. Members have access to the studio 7 days a week (except a few Sundays in the summer) , any time that the center is open, when a class is not in session. Member can participate in 3 to 4 sales a year. The club is intended for amateur potters ONLY, we ask that no work be made for retail sales. It is mandatory that potential members have some previous experience, either by taking a class at our facility or somewhere else.
The Pottery Club has a Christmas sale at the West End CC on the following dates:
Friday, December 3 - 7:30 to 8:30 PM (Preview sale)
Saturday, December 4 - 10 AM - 4:30 PM
Sunday, December 5 - 10 AM to 4 PM
The studio has a manager who takes care of all the loading and firing.
