literally means “sun standing still.”
On Monday, December 21st, at the
moment of the winter solstice, the
path of the sun in the sky over the
past six months has reached its
furthest southern position and now
turns northward.Worldwide,
interpretation of the event has
varied from culture to culture, but
most cultures have held a
recognition of rebirth, involving
holidays, festivals, gatherings,
rituals or other celebrations around
that time. How cultures interpret
the solstice is varied, some people
value the range of December
celebrations, because it is evidence
of diversity of belief within our
common humanity. Come join us to
celebrate with lanterns, music,
dance and ice skating at our event.
