Volunteer Recognition Event

Volunteers have played a vital role in helping the Park Board deliver the very best in parks and recreation services since the first "volunteer" Park Board Commission tasked with the stewardship of Vancouver's first park, Stanley Park, held its first meeting in 1888. Since then, dedicated volunteers have worked hand in hand with staff to enrich our ever-expanding recreational and horticultural endeavours. Today, volunteers are engaged in a wide range of programs and projects across our city that enhance our environment and support the lives of our citizens. Over 6,000 volunteers work throughout our organization - at our facilities and in our parks.

The first volunteer recognition event was held in 1983 at the Stanley Park Pavilion. It has since become an annual tradition that brings the elected Board, staff and volunteers together to celebrate the excellence demonstrated in the work done by our many and diverse volunteers.

The Park Board recognizes that volunteerism is a vital and valuable activity and is committed to the active pursuit and continued development of volunteer opportunities. Volunteers assist the Board and its partners in meeting our service and program goals through sharing of their skills, ideas, energy and time. Volunteers complement the skills of staff, which enables us to enrich and extend our services.

Kudos to all who volunteer to help us keep Vancouver one of the most livable cities in the world!
