The legacy of the Games

Vancouver hosted the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games which were truly amazing experience for locals, visitors and athletes. While the experience of the competition, the sea of red and white and an unprecedented show of Canadianism is what we will remember it is the legacy of the Games that will benefit the residents of Vancouver.

Four new facilities were built for use as venues and then turned over to the Park Board and the community for use: Trout Lake and Killarney rinks, Vancouver Olympic/Paralympic Centre and a new community centre at Southeast False Creek. These facilities will serve as a lasting recreation legacy to Vancouver and to the communities they serve.

So while the Games are over we hope you enjoy our new facilities and recall the excitement of the Winter Games each time you visit.

Public art

The City of Vancouver and the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games have both initiated public art programs to coincide with the Winter Games. The Park Board is the fortunate recipient of many of these works including temporary and permanent sculptures in parks and aboriginal pieces at official venues. more»
