Tourism Week in Vancouver

June 28, 2004 - Don't wait for the annual expedition of your friends and relatives to enjoy all the wonderful parks and attractions that reach their peak of perfection during June, July and August. Be a tourist in your own city while the weather and holidays permit. Here's a short list of places you may not have visited lately but might enjoy through fresh eyes!

Stanley Park Seawall

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful waterfront walks in the world. Many areas recently resurfaced with improved dividers for cyclists/bladers and pedestrians. Extend your walk east along the Coal Harbour waterfront and enjoy the new Harbour Green Park and promenade there.

Queen Elizabeth Park and Bloedel Conservatory

Second only to Stanley Park with annual visitors reaching nearly 6 million. All the new bedding plants are now in the flower borders with exception views of the quarries, downtown and Mount Baker. Don't miss the Bloedel Floral Conservatory and the over 100 free flying birds that will captivate all ages.

VanDusen Botanical Garden

Over 55 acres of horticultural wonder featuring the different trees, plants and shrubs of the world's many climactic zones. Recognized as one of North America's best botanical gardens. Wonderful sculpture also on display with many other amenities for the day tripper.

Spanish Bank Beach

Famous for its low tides, Spanish Bank also affords superb views of the downtown peninsula. Check tide charts and schedule your swim for a late incoming tide so the cool shallow waters can be gradually warmed by the hot sand as it rushes to shore. July 3rd will have some of the lowest tides in a decade making for great beach-combing and even better late swimming!
