Skateboarding Week

August 22, 2005 - Mayor Larry Campbell has proclaimed August 22nd-28th, 2005 as Skateboarding Week in Vancouver. Citing the rise in popular interest for skateboarding, the Mayor went on to praise British Columbia's skateboarders for bringing international distinction to Vancouver with their achievements. "Vancouver has developed a significant skateboard industry including the largest and oldest professional contest in North America, Slam City Jam", scheduled this year at BC Place Stadium from August 26th-28th.

Celebrate Skateboarding Week by grinding and sliding your board at some of the city's best riding locations. Skateboard facilities are sited on a number of parks around the city offering something for everyone from the beginner to the highly skilled and for a range of interests, including bowls, ramps, hipboxes and street-style layouts.

China Creek Park South at East Broadway and Clark Drive

Coopers' Park (North False Creek, under Cambie Bridge)

Two skate benches, grind rail and other features have been added to make the park more skate-friendly, separate from the children's playground. [Location Info]

Downtown Skateboard Plaza

Quebec and Union Streets under the Georgia/Dunsmuir Viaducts near the southeast corner of Andy Livingstone Park. Street-style skateboard park, very popular and one of the first of its kind in North America. [Location Info]

False Creek Community Centre located at 1318 Cartwright Street

Hastings Park at Pandora and Renfrew Street
