September 19, 2005 - This month marks the 10th Anniversary of the Lost Lagoon Nature House, Vancouver's only ecology centre. It also marks the decade evolution of what started as the Stanley Park Zoological Society, founded in 1988, and evolved into becoming what it is today - the Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES).

Through the Nature House, SPES offers acclaimed education programs to school children and the general public of all ages. Stewardship events allow the community to get personally involved in nurturing nature on their doorstep. Wildlife Watch efforts include a "Co-Existing with Coyotes" information service, and monitoring of eagle and heron nests throughout the greater city. Seasonal Ivy Pulls also get volunteers joining together in a common cause such as keeping invasive plant species at bay.

Departing each Sunday at 1pm from the Lost Lagoon Nature House, varied Discovery Walks take participants into the forest and wetlands uncovering the 'secret lives' of birds, insects and the fascinating flora of the Park.

The Nature House is located in the old boat house, situated at the southeast corner of Lost Lagoon, at the west foot of Alberni Street. The Nature House is a program of the Stanley Park Ecology Society supported by the Vancouver Park Board.
