Get Wet at the new Killarney Pool

Opening Early 2006!

November 25, 2005 - Vancouver's First Leisure Pool - The new Killarney Swimming Pool, an $11 million destination leisure aquatic facility serving all Vancouver residents, is poised for an early 2006 opening.

Lengths Plus

A leisure pool is more than just a swimming tank and Killarney Pool's beautiful architecture, with floor to ceiling windows, takes it to even greater heights. The traditional lap pool is augmented by a separate, warmer leisure pool with easy to access "beach entry" along with a shallow length-swimming area for therapeutic exercise or lengths. All pools are wheelchair accessible.

Fun, Fun, Fun

Also on deck will be hot pools for soaking, a giant slide, jumping platform and water cannon for playing and a nearby steam room. A lazy river feature, bubble pit and water tunnel will round out potential play stations while taking a dip at Killarney.

Sparkling Water in a Room With a View

The new Killarney Pool's water will be purified through a state-of-the-art sand filtration system and then be treated with ozone, reducing the quantity of chlorine resulting in clearer water and cleaner air. And the beautiful architecture of the building, which is twice the size of the previous pool, boasts huge windows with dramatic views of Killarney Park and the North Shore mountains.

Blue Water – "Green Building"

First we recycled the majority of demolition materials from the old pool and then we ensured that the new pool was designed to operate as efficiently as possible to reduce use of energy and water. Annual fuel savings are anticipated to be about $80,000.

New Year – New Pool

The new Killarney Pool will be open in early 2006. Keep an eye on the Park Board web site for updates and make a swim at Vancouver's new leisure pool your New Year's resolution!
