Active Communities Get Walking!
January
22, 2007 - The Vancouver Active Communities program was created
to inspire residents to increase physical activity 20% by 2010, a Provincial
challenge through ACTNow BC
that was readily accepted by the City of Vancouver. Our
collective goal is to be the most physically active city to ever host
the Olympics and we are well on our way.
Walking
is one of the best, most accessible and free fitness regimes available
to city dwellers and it's as close as the nearest sidewalk or track.
To help residents gage the distance of their walks, the Park Board has
measured the number of steps and kilometres around a variety of parks.
In addition, there are graphs and tables that will calculate the number
of calories burned when a set distance is walked.

our special Vancouver Active
Communities web page and rediscover old walks and new ones, all
with enhanced information on the healthy benefits of a measured walk!
