Kitsilano Beach Basketball Courts Are Upgraded in Time for Seasonal Opening

court upgrades was held on May 5, 2007

The popular basketball courts at Kitsilano Beach, which have a reputation for being the "in" place for street basketball, recently got a facelift and some much-needed upgrades. The project included levelling and re-asphalting the playing surface, a water-protective coating of hot purple "Flexi paving," new back boards, posts, innovative Kitsilano Beach lettering and color schemes and adapted centre court maple leafs, to give the "old school" courts a vibrant, innovative new look for the next generation of basketball enthusiasts.

Partial funding for the project was provided by two local residents with a passion for the game. The project recognizes the importance of this community amenity for present and future generations of young athletes.

The Kits Beach courts open for play on the Victoria Day long weekend until the end of Labour Day weekend in September. Each day, in consideration of residents that live adjacent to the park, the hoops are opened by staff at 9 am in the morning and closed at dusk.
