Proposed 2011 Fees & Charges
- We want your input!
The Park Board is requesting feedback on proposed changes to its 2011 Fees & Charges and its 2011 Operating Budget. Proposed change for most fees is 4% with different adjustments proposed for Golf, Parking, VanDusen and Stanley Park Train. Other proposed changes include: reducing the age at which we start charging for children from 6 to 3 years; introducing youth playfield fees; and changing low cost sessions from Loonie/Toonie to 50% off regular drop in fees.
We are also seeking input on a number of new revenue generating options, such as sponsorships, increased advertising and expanded pay parking.
The public is invited to share their ideas in an online survey that is available at the Park Board's web site (survey now closed). The Park Board will be reviewing the proposed changes to Fees & Charges at the public board meeting on Monday, November 15. The public is welcome to attend.

Site Meeting Cancelled |
Update (as of Oct. 21, 2010)
Proposed Community Garden at Sunset Beach
The Vancouver Park Board received a proposal to establish a community garden in Sunset Beach Park. The proposal is from the YMCA Connections in partnership with Gordon Neighbourhood House and the West End Residents Association.
The Vancouver Park Board sought public input into the proposal. Although the majority of comments received were not in favour of this particular proposal, many respondents supported the concept of community gardening in the downtown peninsula.
YMCA Connections, therefore, has decided to withdraw its proposal for a community garden at the Sunset Beach location.
An information meeting scheduled for October 28 has now been cancelled.
The YMCA is exploring alternate sites with the Park Board and other community partners.

Vancouver Skate Plaza
The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Vancouver Skate Park Coalition is undertaking a project to repair the Vancouver Skate Plaza. The scope of the work is budget dependent. Construction is planned for 2011 for the following:
- Resurface areas of the asphalt; and
Repair a portion of the granite copings.
At this moment, we do not have enough funds to provide repairs for all of the Plaza's popular features. We are currently seeking funding for future repairs and upgrades to the Skate Plaza. The Park Board intends to perform additional repairs and upgrades to the Plaza once funding becomes available.
We want to hear from you! Please let us know your priorities on what should be repaired once additional funding becomes available. Please visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/skateplaza2010 to fill out the questionnaire. |

Hastings Park/PNE Planning
The City of Vancouver is currently undertaking a Master Plan and consultation process to guide the long-range redevelopment of Hastings Park and the Pacific National Exhibition. In 2009, we asked the public for their feedback on initial ideas for the Master Plan. Now, we're back with more details on the Plan and a chance to get further comments from you.
In the Master Plan, Hastings Park is envisioned as a greener and more active destination, with improved connections to the waterfront and surrounding community. Renewing the annual Fair and Playland, and creating a year-round destination for celebrations, cultural festivals, and events are key components of the Plan.
Join us at one of the following open houses to review concept plans and give us your feedback. Input from these open houses will help guide the final completion of the Master Plan which will be considered by City Council this fall.

Proposed Community Garden in David Lam Park
A proposal has been made to construct a community garden in David Lam Park. The Y.M.C.A. has submitted an application to build an Intercultural Community Garden at the corner of Homer Street and Beach Crescent, northwest of the tennis courts.
The garden will be approximately five meters by 30 meters. Because the proposed garden is on park property, it must be formally approved by the Park Board. The approval process involves canvassing community support for the garden.
Comments regarding this proposal can be submitted by June 15, 2010 to:
