Project InformationKits Beach PlaygroundProject Type: Playgrounds Park Details: Kitsilano Beach Park Key Dates: Contact: October 23, 2009 - Funding announced today for a $500,000 playground to be built at Kitsilano Beach Park near the outdoor basketball court. Three parks located in Vancouver, Richmond and Whistler received funding by the Province of B.C., Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada, Rick Hansen Foundation and 2010 Legacies Now. Project DescriptionThe upgrading of Kitsilano Beach Park Playground was approved by the Board at the July 20, 2009 meeting. The renewal will be in partnership with 2010 Legacies Now and other funding partners. The concept design was completed prior to the 2010 Winter Games, with completion and official opening January 2011. Update March 2011 The Kitsilano Beach Park Playground was upgraded this past year in its new location - a couple of hundred meters to the south. The new playground has been open to the public since December 2010. The next step is to move some of the elements from this playground to the new location. Play elements which no longer meet CSA standards and have aged such that they are no longer useable will be removed from the park over the next few weeks. The park space currently occupied by this playground will be leveled, including the berm adjacent to the basketball courts, and the area will be seeded with grass this Spring. Early this Summer, once the new grass has established sufficiently, the protective fencing will be removed and the area will be available for public use. Community ParticipationPublic involvement and workshops were conducted in Autumn 2009.
