Skateboard Strategy for Vancouver

Park Board will organize a public process that will:

  1. identify and select candidate sites for new skateboard facilities
  2. set skateboard priorities for the upcoming 2006-2008 Capital Plan
This process will involve skateboarders and non-skateboarders alike. If you are interested in participating, please send an email to Michel Desrochers, park planner, at pbcomment@vancouver.ca.
October 2005 On October 3rd, Park Board approved the Capital Plan for 2006-2008 (a financial plan for construction projects in parks), which includes $375,000 for "youth parks" for skateboarders and BMXers: look for project P-04b in the summary table .

A questionnaire about skateboarding was prepared and available at Slam City Jam in August, and at the Downtown Skateboarding Plaza and the Hastings Park skatepark in the last 2 weeks in October. An on-line questionnaire was also available. More than 600 questionnaires were filled in by October 23rd.

On October 31, 2005, the Park Board approved the Skateboard Strategy for Vancouver , which will guide decisions for the next decade. A key component of the strategy is to assist with determining new locations for skateboarding in Vancouver.
September 2005 On September 15th, Park Board staff made a presentation to the Park Board's Planning & Environment Committee on the preparation of a skateboard strategy. The Committee supported the initiative and asked for staff to report back with a strategy on October 31, 2005.
