Background

On March 23, 2009, the Board approved the schematic design (Option 3) of a future new Trout Lake Community Centre. The appointment of Walter Francl Architecture Inc. was approved to carry on with the design development.

The new community centre allows for the following:

• Fitness
• Preschool
• Gym - full size
• Craft
• Seniors
• Youth
• Dance/aerobics
• Martial arts

What will happen to programs while the new centre is being constructed?

• The existing centre will be closed for the duration of construction
• Skating rink open and fully operational
• Priority for services to be continued:
  - Preschool
  - Neighborhood Children and Youth Programs
  - Other Programs
• Staff will work with Association to determine specific options for program re-location
• Some programs will not be offered

Project Timeline

• Sept 3, 2009: the Trout Lake Community Centre Building Committee and PB Staff approve the design and recommended that it go to Park Board for approval to procee
• Sept 10, 2009:project update presentation to PB Planning and Environment Committee
• Sept 15, 2009: Public open house display and presentation at Trout Lake CC
• Nov 2009:Development Permit application
• Jan-Feb 2010:Tendering
• Spring 2010: Construction begins
