Project Information
BMX/Mountain Bike Park
at Vanier Park
Project Description
In September 2009, the Vancouver Park Board approved the construction of a BMX/mountain bike facility in Vanier Park, directly adjacent to Burrard Civic Marina. Earth Ramp Bike Parks has been contracted to build the new bike park in the Summer of 2010. In preparation for construction, the Park Board hosted a Public Open House on June 23rd to identify any outstanding issues and receive feedback from the community on the design of the bike park.
The bike park is now open and features beginner, intermediate and expert tracks. There is a small pump track that will be expanded in the future as well as a spectator area for viewing riders featuring a big, comfy (concrete) couch.
The success of the bike park relies on users to respect the dirt jumps by not riding when they are overly wet, spraying them down when they are dry and dusty, and grooming them when they are worn down. Please respect the bike park and help take care of it. Please respect the safety of other riders and yourself when using the bike park.
Please contact the Project Manager if you have questions about the project.

Background
As is the case with skateboarding, BMX and mountain biking are growing as a popular recreation and fitness activity attractive to many youth and young adults. At least eight bike "jump" parks and more elaborate bike parks have recently been created in outlying municipalities.
Some years ago, an informal dirt jump terrain was developed by BMX/mountain bike enthusiasts in the Oak & 37th park site (now Oak Meadows Park). In 2005 the Park Board directed staff to work with the BMX/mountain biking community to find an appropriate location for development of a youth park facility suitable to their needs as a replacement for the user-built dirt jump course eliminated through the development Oak Meadows Park.
