Fraser River Park kiosk celebrates diverse history of river and areaMay 21, 2010 (No. 22) - A series of information panels mounted in a decorative kiosk will be unveiled at a special event on Saturday, May 29 at 1pm at Fraser River Park. The eight panels describe the ecology, hydrology, history and natural environment of the area and lower Fraser River. The panels and kiosk were completely refurbished and updated from the originals that were first installed in the park in 1986, a donation by the North Fraser Harbour Commission as a Centennial gift to the Park Board. The new interpretive panels were developed in partnership with the Fraser River Coalition, whose mandate is to educate the public about the environmental, social and economic importance of the working river. A ribbon cutting will include representatives from the Vancouver Park Board, the Fraser River Coalition and Musqueam first nation. Cake and refreshments will follow. Fraser River Park is located on 9.1 hectares of foreshore land west of Granville Street. The park was first developed in 1985 and features riverside trails, boardwalks, a dog off-leash area, A number of river-related artifacts such as an anchor and chain bollard are displayed along some of the pathways.
