Special events, programs and a tea dance for Seniors Week

May 31, 2010 (No. 24) - Seniors are celebrated (and celebrating!) during B.C. Seniors Week with special events in Vancouver. The Vancouver Park Board is hosting several events including performances, exhibitions, walks and the always-popular tea dance.

Events take place at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews, except where noted.

Seniors Week Opening: 2010 Arts and Health Project Performance and & Exhibition
Tue June 1, 10:00 am. Free performances and art exhibition. Lunch (12 to 1:30 pm) $5, pre-registration required.

2nd annual Quirk-E Cabaret
Friday June 4, 7 to 10 pm. Admission by donation. Performances by The Queer Imaging & Riting Kollective for Elders (aka. QUIRK-E).

Seniors Workers and Company Camp
Wednesday, June 7, 2 to 4:00 pm. Workshops in acting and song.

Chance to Dance and Entertain
Tuesday June 8, 1 to 3:15 pm. Showcasing Vancouver community centres’ seniors dance and entertainment programs.

Urban Walk to Hasting Sanctuary
Wednesday June 9, 10 to 11:30 am. Go on a bird spotting adventure on the lookout for more than 100 species of birds. Meet at Hastings Community Centre lobby area, 3096 East Hastings Street.

Art and History Walk in the Yaletown area
Thursday June 10, 9 to 10:30 am, meet at the Roundhouse lobby. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.

8th Annual Tea-By-The-Sea Dance
Friday, June 11, 1 to 4 pm. Tickets $8. Come & dance to stardust Orchestra and enjoy Tea-by-the-Sea. Pre-register quickly as this event always sells out.

Steam Line Walk Official Opening
Sunday June 13, 1 to 3 pm, meet at the Roundhouse lobby. Walk from Roundhouse to Gastown with Alan Hebert.

Chrysalids: Lower Mainland Seniors Workers Conference
Tuesday, June 22, 9 am to 3:30 pm, $50. Learn about the latest programming techniques in arts and mental health.
