Vancouver Park Board statement
on the passing of Honourable David Lam
November 22, 2010 (No. 56) – Vancouver Park Board Chair Aaron Jasper released the following statement today on the passing of former British Columbia Lieutenant Governor David Lam, acknowledging Dr. Lam's long service to the city and province.
Jasper said, "As a keen horticulturalist, noted philanthropist and champion of multiculturalism, David Lam was a tireless supporter and great friend of parks and recreation. He will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of meeting and working with him or enjoying one of the wonderful legacies he left to Vancouver - including the spectacular Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, the popular international Dragon Boat Festival, the elegant Dr. David Lam Cherry Tree Grove in VanDusen Botanical Garden and the beautiful waterfront park in Yaletown that bears his name.
"Dr. Lam's passion for parks was also evident through his generous support for the restoration of Stanley Park in 2007. His most recent contribution was this past summer when a celebration was held to honour his gift of the addition of 100 Akebono cherry trees planted in David Lam Park. On of behalf of my fellow Commissioners and Park Board management and staff, I offer our sincerest condolences to his family."
