Arboriculture Staff

There are 50 full-time arboriculture staff inspecting, pruning, planting and maintaining street and park trees in the 22 neighbourhoods.

Street tree operations are divided into two sections:

• North Section, working out of Evans Yard, looks after neighbourhoods 1 through 12
• South Section, working out of Sunset Nursery, has neighbourhoods 13 to 22

Training and Safety

Arborists require significant training in order to perform their work safely and efficiently. All of our full-time arboriculture staff are certified Journeymen or Apprentice Utility Arborists. Most have a background in forestry or horticulture.

All staff receive additional training in:

• traffic control
• chainsaw safety
• climbing and rigging
• equipment use
• customer contact skills
• tree evaluation
• risk management procedures

Many of the staff are also Certified Arborists from the International Society of Arboriculture and certified pesticide applicators. All full-time arboriculture staff hold certificates in hazard tree assessment, power systems protection and Level I First Aid.
