10th Avenue Corridor Project

Over 500,000 people cycle on 10th Ave every year, making it one of the busiest east-west bikeways in the Vancouver’s cycling network.

We're now working to improve the corridor by making it more convenient, safe, and comfortable for people of all ages and abilities (AAA) to walk and cycle.

The 10th Ave local street bikeway extends from Trafalgar St to Victoria Dr, linking many key destinations such as Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and Commercial Dr. It also intersects some busy north-south cycling routes, like the Ontario Bikeway.

This project aims to:

  • Make the street comfortable, safe, and accessible for all people
  • Improve safety for everyone, especially for vulnerable road users and at busy intersections
  • Accommodate the loading and access needs of adjacent businesses and institutions
  • Consider impacts to transit, traffic flow, and neighborhood livability

What's happening

Segment 3: Hospital Zone (Alder to Cambie)

Phase 1 (Oak St to Willow St)

The 10th Ave Evaluation Commitee, formed in 2018 to collaborate with City staff to review the performance of the phase 1 street improvements, has now concluded.

Phase 2 construction (Willow St to Cambie St)

A consultant is in the process of developing the final details of design based on the concept approved by Council in May 17, 2017. The learnings from the collaboration with the 10th Ave Evaluation Committee on phase 1 will inform the design for phase 2. The detailed design is expected to be complete in winter 2019, and an external contractor will be retained in 2020.

Staff will continue to work with local stakeholders to minimize traffic impacts for patients and health services during construction.

Parking regulations in segment 4 and 6

In response to safety concerns along the 10th Avenue Corridor and to improve visibility for people walking, cycling, and driving, we have changed parking regulations on 10th Ave in Segment 4 (Yukon St to Columbia St)  and Segment 6 (Windsor St to Glen St).

Project segments

Spanning 7.2km from Trafalgar St to Victoria Dr, the 10th Ave Corridor Project is divided into seven segments.
