We have built the first phase of the Granville Connector with the installation of new pedestrian and cyclist connections across the Granville Bridge. We have also removed the north Granville loops and created a standard street grid layout.
This work will transform the way we use the bridge by creating safer, more convenient access to active transportation and transit while enabling future improvements.
What's happeningThe connector is open
The protected walking and cycling path across the west side of the Granville Bridge is now open.
It provides a safe, accessible, and seamless route for everyone who wants to walk, bike, or roll from downtown Vancouver to Central Broadway and the Arbutus Greenway.
H-road open
In June 2025, we opened the residential street network at the north end of the bridge. Drivers and pedestrians can now access Continental, Rolston, and Neon streets from Pacific Street, Drake Street, and the Granville Bridge. Learn more about this change
Drake Street upgrades
We’re also completing transportation upgrades on nearby Drake St. In summer 2025, we’ll start the final phase of these upgrades at the Burrard Street intersection and between Granville Street and Pacific Boulevard. Learn more about the Drake Street upgrades project
Burrard South Slope detour
Construction for a temporary bike path in the Burrard Slopes park project area will begin later this summer, which will connect cyclists to the Granville Connector and Arbutus Greenway. During that construction, cyclists will be detoured along a block of both West 5th Avenue and Pine Street.
South ramp work
The Granville Bridge south ramps rehabilitation project continues on the south end of the bridge, with phased ramp closures in place until summer 2026. This planned maintenance work on the ramps used to enter and exit the bridge on the south side includes concrete repairs, deck joint replacement, and bearing replacement work.
Duration
Winter 2023 to summer 2025
Work hours
Monday to Friday: 7am to 5pm, extended hours including some overnight work (8pm to 7am) and weekend work as needed.
