John Hendry (Trout Lake) Park renewal plan

John Hendry Park, also known as Trout Lake, is regarded as a sanctuary in the centre of the city, providing a getaway within minutes of urban life in East Vancouver. A popular destination that attracts crowds for:

  • Picnicking
  • Cycling
  • Walking
  • Lounging
  • The farmers' market
  • Dogwalkers bring their dogs for a game of fetch or a swim

On May 16, 2022, the Park Board unanimously approved the John Hendry Park Renewal Plan presented by staff.

While Trout Lake has historically been a swimming destination, water quality issues have raised concerns about the future of Vancouver’s only accessible freshwater lake.

The Renewal Plan provides an opportunity to plan essential work, including:

  • Surveys
  • Tree health assessments
  • Soil and water quality studies to prepare for future improvements.

The long-range renewal plan will guide improvements to make sure the East Vancouver destination park continues to be a vibrant and well-loved community gathering space for years to come.
