People running, cycling, and walking on Arbutus Greenway

About the Arbutus Greenway

What is a greenway?

In Vancouver, greenways are linear corridors for pedestrians and cyclists. They connect people, communities, and parks.

The Arbutus Greenway is a future, north-south transportation corridor that, once completed, will connect False Creek to the Fraser River.

We’re in the initial stage of planning and consultation. Our goal is to start constructing sections of the greenway by late 2019.

The Arbutus Greenway runs parallel to Arbutus Street and West Boulevard, from Kitsilano to Marpole.

What the greenway will bring to Vancouver

The greenway will be a high-quality public space for walking, cycling, and other non-motorized modes of transportation, with public plazas, art, and so much more. For example, the future greenway is an opportunity to:

  • Strengthen connections between neighbours and neighbourhoods
  • Provide a place for people to stroll, meet, and mingle
  • Create a safe and comfortable route for commuters
  • Host public art, nighttime parades, and whatever else you can imagine
