3rd Alarm Fire- 2200 Block of E Hastings Street

April 24 2025 –

On April 23rd at 4:09am, firefighters were called to the 2200 Block of E Hastings Street for a report of a structure on fire.

On arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke from the back of a building and quickly upgraded the fire to a third alarm fire, due to the number of buildings involved and potential of fire spreading to neighbouring properties.

The fire extended into two, one-storey businesses and one, two-storey mixed-use property. Approximately 45 firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the fire, heat and smoke to the three structures, preventing further loss of property.

Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries to occupants as all businesses were closed at the time of the fire and no one was inside the structures.

Out of caution, seven people from a neighbouring building were temporarily evacuated and have since been allowed to return.

As of 1:00pm, the fire has been extinguished. Impacted buildings have been boarded up and will be assessed for next steps.

Fire investigators were on scene throughout the fire and are actively working on fire cause and investigation. The fire is under investigation at this time.

VFRS would like to thank the individuals who quickly called 911 when they saw smoke from the structure, as well as the number public safety agencies on scene assisting with operations: Vancouver Police Department, BC Emergency Health Services, Fortis BC and BC Hydro.
