Auditor General releases update on the status of previous audit recommendations

June 26 2026 –

Vancouver’s Auditor General has released an update on the status of audit recommendations.

The report, prepared semi-annually on behalf, and at the request of City Council’s Auditor General Committee, identifies progress on the 60 recommendations the Auditor General has made since January 2023. City departments report having made progress on all but 3 of the sixty, with 33 having been fully implemented.

Progress was reported over the last six months on recommendations to improve recreation facility asset management, police risk and performance management, non-profit leases, revenue management in parks and building permit fees.

“It’s gratifying to see city departments report substantial progress on the vast majority of audit recommendations I’ve made over the last three and a half years, with over half completed,” Macdonell said.

As of January 2026, the Auditor General estimates a positive financial impact of over $31 million from the City’s implementation of audit recommendations, and to have yielded a return of over 450% on the investment over two Councils in the Office of the Auditor General.
