Candidate nominations open September 1 for Vancouver Election

August 26 2026 –

Nominations for Mayor, City Councillors, Park Board Commissioners, and School Trustees in the 2026 Vancouver Election open on Tuesday, September 1 and close Friday, September 11 at 4pm.

Candidates can download the 2026 nomination package (2 MB) or pick up a printed copy at the Election Office (305 West 8th Avenue) or at City Hall (453 West 12th Avenue). Candidates should read the package carefully before filing.

To ensure a smooth filing experience, candidates are encouraged to schedule an appointment to submit their nomination documents with the Vancouver Election Office by calling 604-829-2010. Bookings are now open.

A list of candidates who have successfully submitted their packages will be posted on vancouver.ca/vote after 4pm on September 11.  

Who can become a candidate?

To run for office in the 2026 Vancouver Election, candidates must: 

  • Be 18 years of age or older on October 17
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Have lived in BC for at least 6 months before the date of filing
  • Not be disqualified by law from being nominated, elected, or holding office

Four races, 27 positions open

In the 2026 Vancouver Election, voters will elect:

  • One Mayor 
  • Ten City Councillors
  • Seven Park Board Commissioners
  • Nine School Trustees

All offices are held for a four-year term.

Voters will also vote on three questions about borrowing for the City’s Capital Plan, and two plebiscite questions related to public safety.

Voters have three ways to cast a ballot in the 2026 Vancouver Election:

  • Vote by mail: Applications open September 8
  • Advance voting: October 3, 7, 10, and 13
  • Election Day: Saturday, October 17
