Lace up for an exclusive chance to skate with Olympic star Patrick Chan at Vancouver rinks
Whether you’re getting started early, or putting skates on for the first time later in life, ice skating is such a valuable life skill, not to mention fun!
Patrick Chan
We're excited to present two exclusive meet-and-greet opportunities with Canadian Olympic superstar, Patrick Chan. On September 17 and October 8, join Patrick on the ice for a special public skate session featuring circuit training fit for an Olympian, and the chance for photos, autographs, and a quick hello.
In case you missed it, Patrick is the most decorated male figure skater in Canadian history. A three-time world champion, he won gold in the team event at the PyeongChang Olympics and two silver medals at the Sochi Olympics. He keeps his skates and skills sharp by practicing throughout the year at Vancouver’s top-notch recreational facilities like Hillcrest and Trout Lake rinks and is a huge supporter of the skate programming offered by Parks and Rec. This meet and greet is his way of getting to know some of the skate enthusiasts practicing at his home rinks.
Lessons are offered for pre-schoolers, youth, and adults of all skill levels. Registration for skating lessons will begin on Thursday, September 8 at 7pm, and will be accessible at many of the rinks throughout the city.
We would like to thank Patrick for spending a few days with fans and aspiring ice skaters, offering helpful tips, and giving out a few high-fives along the way. The sessions will be drop-in only, and admission can be purchased at the front desk of participating facilities.

Patrick Chan
“Skating is such a huge part of my life and we’re so fortunate to have these facilities readily available for us, year-round, in Vancouver,” explains Patrick Chan. “Whether you’re getting started early, or putting skates on for the first time later in life, ice skating is such a valuable life skill, not to mention fun! I’ve been skating at our rec centres in Vancouver for years and love seeing everyone enjoying the ice as much as I do.”
Steve Kellock, Director of Recreation for the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation
“Patrick is a great example of somebody who puts in the work and ice time necessary to be champion of his sport, but who also supports and appreciates his community here in Vancouver,” says Steve Kellock, Director of Recreation for the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation. “Everybody has to start somewhere and taking some skating lessons could be a great first step towards success. Some of our skating facilities are operational year-round, making them an ideal place to stay consistent with practice as well as a wonderful place for families to enjoy quality time together, no matter what the weather looks like outside.”
