Vancouver Park Board hosts ON UNCEDED TERRITORY exhibition celebrating Indigenous artists
As Vancouver approaches the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, the Vancouver Park Board invites residents to experience ON UNCEDED TERRITORY External website, opens in new tab, an exhibition celebrating the work of artists from the three local Nations: xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh). The exhibition runs September 25 to October 4, 2026, at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre.
Featuring the work of Chrystal Sparrow (Musqueam), T'uy't'tanat-Cease Wyss (Squamish), and Mark George (Tsleil-Waututh), the exhibition celebrates the creativity, cultural knowledge, and community connections fostered through the Park Board's Fieldhouse Activation Program. Since 2018, a cultural residency in Stanley Park has provided artists from the local Nations with a dedicated space to create, share knowledge, and engage with the public on their ancestral lands.
Meet the artists
- Chrystal Sparrow (Musqueam) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work includes carving, painting, and design, often drawing on Coast Salish teachings and contemporary Indigenous identity.
- T'uy't'tanat-Cease Wyss (Squamish) is an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and knowledge keeper whose work explores Indigenous plant knowledge, language, and connections to the land.
- Mark George (Tsleil-Waututh) is the current Indigenous Artist in Residence at the Stanley Park Fieldhouse. A master carver and certified instructor, his work reflects Tsleil-Waututh culture, history, and connections to the natural environment.
The exhibition also reflects the Park Board's ongoing commitment to Reconciliation through meaningful relationships, cultural visibility, and opportunities for Indigenous peoples to share their stories, knowledge, and artistic practices.

Continuing cultural engagement in Stanley Park
The Park Board is pleased to welcome Mark George as the newest Indigenous Artist in Residence at the Stanley Park Fieldhouse (A-Frame, 8701 Stanley Park Drive). Visitors are invited to attend his Saturday Open Bench sessions from 1 to 3 pm to observe carving in progress, learn about Tsleil-Waututh history, and hear stories connected to his work.
