Park Board announces call for proposals for 2026-2027 Fieldhouse Activation

July 22 2025 –

The Vancouver Park Board is now accepting proposals for its 2026-2027 Fieldhouse Activation residencies at Oak and Granville Park. These two-year residencies, running from January 2026 to December 2027, offer unique opportunities for community-engaged creative work in public park spaces. Priority will be given to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis artists, cultural practitioners, and Indigenous-led arts and culture collectives or organizations. The deadline to apply is Monday, August 25.

The Fieldhouse Activation transforms former caretaker suites in Vancouver parks into creative hubs. These spaces foster neighbourhood connections through collaborative, place-based activities and events. The program welcomes proposals from artists across all disciplines, as well as cultural practitioners, knowledge holders, and environmental projects. Non-profit organizations, cooperatives, collectives and cultural groups that focus on Indigenous community-engaged arts, culture, and environmental stewardship are encouraged to apply.

This initiative is part of the Park Board Reconciliation commitment to support Indigenous cultural visibility across Vancouver. It also aligns with the Arts Policy directive to actively facilitate participation in and access to the arts for all in a city where the arts are integral to everyday life.

“The Fieldhouse Activation Program provides space to cultural practitioners of all backgrounds to transform and expand the narrative of Vancouver parks as places for community and cultural wellness,” said Cha'an Dtut Rena Soutar, Manager, Arts, Reconciliation and Culture, Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation. “Recognizing that the cultural narrative of parks has been historically determined by the Park Board, we are in a prime position to correct this situation and welcome and support Indigenous artists and groups in demonstrating what Reconciliation can look like.”

Since 2012, the Fieldhouse Activation Program has supported numerous artists in diverse disciplines, organizations and collectives, including environmental stewardship and local food initiatives by offering free studio, workshop, and community gathering space in exchange for an active, community-focused presence in the fieldhouse. Park Board staff support the fieldhouse activation with community connections, system liaison work and in-kind resources.

Information sessions will be in-person on Wednesday, July 23 at 6:30 pm at Woodland Park, and online on Tuesday, July 29 at 7 pm. Email pbfieldhouses@vancouver.ca to register for the online info session.
