Gastown’s summer Sundays winding down, provide your feedback by September 7
After a summer of music, vendors and special programming every Sunday, the full swing of the Gastown summer pilot is winding down. The Gastown transformation has included the pilot of 2-way Cordova, an improved cycling connection on Water Street and places for people to sit and enjoy the neighbourhood.
The last Water Street Pedestrian Zone Sunday will be on August 31, 2025.
Throughout the pilot, City staff have closely monitored public space uses, traffic flow and experience of pedestrian zone, while gathering feedback from residents, businesses and visitors through surveys, emails, 311 and one-on-one conversations.
Based on early findings from community surveys and traffic counts, and in close collaboration with the Gastown Business Improvement Society, the City will extend components of the pilot to learn how they perform during the winter months, including some modifications. These modifications include continued monitoring of two-way Cordova Street from Richards Street to Gore Avenue, and associated changes on Water Street and Powell Street, as well as the cycling connection on Water Street. Placemaking features such as public seating in Maple Tree Square will remain throughout the winter months.
Help shape the future of Gastown by completing the survey by September 7.
