Vancouver City Council met this week to hear and discuss a variety of topics during Council, and Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities.
Tuesday, December 6
This week’s Council began with a minute of silence in recognition of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Council then approved the following reports and referral reports on consent:

- “In our push to streamline delivery of needed housing in our city, I’m grateful for Council’s unanimous vote to approve the establishment of fixed-rate community amenity contributions for low and medium-rise projects,” says Councillor Sarah Kirby-Yung. “This will reduce timelines and costs while providing more predictability to the development process.”
- “The passage of our motion to review and strengthen the City’s strategy around supporting older adults, with an eye toward Vancouver meeting the WHO’s Age-Friendly City standard, will help us to become more resilient in the face of our aging demographic and pervasive ageism,” says Councillor Mike Klassen. “It will also eventually empower seniors to enjoy a better, more connected quality of life in our city that values their contributions.”
- Harmonizing City of Vancouver and Provincial Childcare Policies and Licensing Requirements (Member’s Motion B.5) PDF file (72 KB) – with an amendment
- “Delivering a harmonized childcare policy between the Provincial Government and the City is the first step towards delivering thousands of new childcare spaces in Vancouver,” says Councillor Lisa Dominato. “We look forward to working with the Province to ensure all families in Vancouver can have access to quality, affordable childcare spaces.”
- “This is a win for transparency, accountability, and evidence-based policy,” says Councillor Lenny Zhou. “Body-worn cameras work and their implementation will lead to cost-savings for taxpayers and a greater sense of confidence in both investigations and our justice system."
A Council meeting was convened immediately following the Standing Committee meeting.
