Roundup of Business at City Council for the week of June 2, 2025

June 5 2025 –

City Council met this week to hear and discuss a variety of topics during Council and Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities.

Tuesday, June 3

This week’s meeting began with Council’s presentation of the proclamation for Italian Heritage Month.

Council business then began with the approval of the following items on consent:

After that, Council approved items: 

The City of Vancouver reaffirmed its commitment to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) Action Plan. 

This historic plan was created together with xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). The Action Plan was first approved in June 2024 and outlines the City’s responsibilities in upholding the rights of Indigenous Peoples. 

Council also approved By-laws 1-38 (7.4 MB), and the following new business items:

  • Requests for Leaves of Absence
  • Memorial Event for the April 26th Lapu-Lapu Day Tragedy in the City of Vancouver (See note to editors for details)  
  • Change to Acting Mayor Roster

Wednesday, June 4

The Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities began with Council’s presentation of the proclamation for Eid al-Adha, and the approval of the following items on consent:

After that, the Standing Committee approved the following reports and Council members’ motions: 

Council member’s motion, Protecting Renters by Establishing a Tenant Advocacy Office (113 KB), was not approved.

A Council meeting was convened immediately following the Standing Committee meeting during which Council approved the recommendations and actions of the preceding Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities.
