Roundup of Business at City Council for the week of May 19, 2025

City Council met this week to hear and discuss a variety of topics during Council and Standing Committee on City Finance and Services.

Tuesday, May 20

This week’s meeting began with Council’s presentation of the proclamation for Guru Nanak Jahaz (Komagata Maru) Remembrance Day, on May 23. On this day, the City honours the lives lost and reflects on a painful chapter of discrimination and injustice in Vancouver and Canada’s history.

Council business then began with the approval of the following items on consent:

After that, Council approved the following items:

Council also approved By-laws 1-7 (11.8 MB), By-law 8 (16.7 MB), and the following new business items:

  • Leave of Absence Requests
  • Motion to Reaffirm British Columbia Board Position with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM)
  • Travel Approval for Councillor Lisa Dominato and Councillor Mike Klassen to attend meetings with Mayor Sim in Ottawa, June 3-5, 2025

On Tuesday evening, a public hearing was held where Council approved the following rezoning applications:

Wednesday, May 21

The Standing Committee on City Finance and Services approved the following reports and Council members’ motions: 

A Council meeting was convened immediately following the Standing Committee meeting during which Council approved the recommendations and actions of the preceding Standing Committee on City Finance and Services.
