City Council met this week to hear and discuss a variety of topics during the Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities meeting.

Wednesday, October 29

The Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities began with the approval of the following items on consent:

• Contract Award for Prequalified Contractors for Sewer Pump Station Projects - 2025 PDF file (57 KB) 
• Reducing Average Sewer Upgrade Costs for Developers PDF file (243 KB) 
• Olympic Village Restaurant (Tap & Barrel) Lease Extension PDF file (37 KB) 
• Proposed Changes to the Terms of Reference of the Accessibility Committee PDF file (103 KB) 
• Contract Award for Construction Services for Cambie Bridge Seismic Upgrade - Phase 2 PDF file (195 KB) 

After that, the Standing Committee approved the following items: 

• 2025 Q3 Quarterly Capital Budget Adjustments and Closeouts PDF file (285 KB) 
• Report Back - Maintaining Fairness & Effectiveness of the Empty Homes Tax (EHT) PDF file (171 KB) 
• Support for BC Parks Foundation’s Learning by Nature Initiative PDF file (64 KB) 

Council members’ motion on Safe Streets for Trick or Treats: Creating Safe Pedestrian Areas to Make Halloween a Little Less Scary PDF file (29 KB) was referred to staff for information. 

Council members’ motions on the Youth Voices: Amend the Charter for Age Sixteen Starter PDF file (38 KB) and No More Developer Handouts: Requiring the Full Replacement of Waived SRA Conversion Fees PDF file (26 KB) were not approved.

Thursday, October 30

A public hearing will convene on Thursday at 6 pm, for Council to consider the following items:
