Symphony at Sunset brings open-air orchestra to Vancouver’s oceanfront

One of Vancouver’s most anticipated summer traditions returns as the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO), presents Symphony at Sunset at Sunset Beach Park on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

Now in its sixth year, this popular event offers an opportunity to experience live orchestral music in one of Vancouver’s most scenic waterfront settings. The evening's program will include classical favourites and selections from blockbuster film scores including Harry Potter and Star Wars, performed by the full VSO under the direction of Music Director Otto Tausk.

Getting there

Attendees are encouraged to walk, bike, or take public transportation to Symphony at Sunset. The TransLink Trip Planner can assist in finding the most efficient way to get to and from Sunset Beach Park. A bike valet and bike racks will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Bicycles are not permitted on the turf. Parking in the area is very limited, so if driving is necessary, consider parking in Stanley Park and walking to the event site. Arrive early and allow plenty of time to find parking.

Road closures

  • Thurlow St, between Pacific and Beach, will be closed from 4 pm–10 pm
  • Beach Ave, between Thurlow and Jervis, will be open to local traffic only from 4 pm–7 pm
  • Beach Ave, between Thurlow and Jervis, will be closed from 7 pm–11 pm
  • Bute St, between Pacific and Beach, will be closed from 7 pm–11 pm

Amenities and services

The event grounds will be open all day for picnickers to set up early, as space will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are encouraged to bring low chairs to avoid obstructing the view of other audience members. An accessible viewing area will be located on the south side of the event grounds. 

Several food trucks will be parked throughout the grounds and the Sunset Beach Concession stand will be open late.
