Waste disposal and recycling for businesses

Businesses must find private haulers to collect their garbage, recycling, food scraps, and yard waste.

On this page, get the details to help you:

  • Find a private hauler
  • Recycle small quantities at depots and shops
  • Store dumpsters on City property
  • Dispose of waste that needs special handling, including hazardous materials
  • Dispose of construction and demolition waste

Find a private hauler

Look up a hauler in the Yellow Pages business directory.

Food scraps haulers

Browse our listing of food scraps haulers and their services, and review helpful screening questions.

Starting January 1, 2015, both the City of Vancouver and Metro Vancouver regional district will ban food scraps from disposal as garbage.

That means all food scraps – raw and cooked food, plate scrapings, leftovers, expired food, meat, bones, and dairy products – need to be recycled.

Recycling food scraps reduces garbage and greenhouse gases, and creates compost for local agriculture.

Start a food scraps collection program now to prepare for the food scraps disposal ban.

Tips to start recycling food scraps

  1. Sort food scraps separately from garbage.
  2. Consider composting food scraps on-site.
  3. Hire a private hauler to collect food scraps.
  4. Does the City already collect your yard waste or garbage? We may also be able to collect your food scraps: phone 604-871-6443 and ask about the Green Bin Program.

Recycle small quantities at depots and shops

If your business only needs to recycle small quantities, you can take the items to a depot, return them to where you bought them, or donate them.

Packaging and printed paper

You can recycle unwaxed cardboard, plastic bags and film, plastic containers, printed paper, and styrofoam at the Vancouver depots, below. This list of depots is for information only. The City does not support or guarantee the services of these depots.
